![]() Reviewed in the United States on 16 November 2022 Keep in mind that neither the hot shoe adaptor nor a tripod mount is included. I recommend this accessory if you have a need to hold an action camera, either on a tripod or on top of another camera using a hot shoe adaptor. In the end, I was able to get things tightened down to the point where nothing would slip. I'm not specifically complaining about it because I was using a DJI Osmo Action in a Small Rig metal cage (very heavy), and I can't vouch for the quality of the hot shoe adaptor, which is not part of this setup. I had a bit of trouble securing everything to the hot shoe adaptor in a way that didn't tend to slip if I was using an acute angle. With this ball mount, I can position the action camera at different angles and directions from the bottom camera and make two timelapse videos at once. I have a hot shoe adaptor to place this ball mount on top of the "big" camera, and a panning device on the bottom that drives both cameras in a panning motion. I like it because I use a DJI Osmo Action on top of my regular camera to make timelapse videos. I've found that it's easy to hold the camera in the position I want with lots of slack on the mount, and tighten it up once I get the angles I want. You can't "nudge" your camera around, but it won't slip either. With this mount, the whole thing becomes very rigid once it's tightened even a little bit. The balls that hold the mount in place are not smooth, but have ridges, or lines in them that increases the grip. At least, it's heavier than the two I own. The strongest feature is that the metal seems to be heavier than other ball mount assemblies I've seen. It's more expensive than most, but it holds to the adage that you really do get what you pay for. I'll call this a ball mount for a GoPro-like camera or accessory. However, I am mentioning it as I could imagine that this would matter to some people and they should be aware of it. It is one less piece of plastic that will end up in a landfill. It came with the other parts and the bag in a cardboard box. I love this thing.īelieve me, this doesn't matter to me at all, but the only negative I can come with is that the listing on Amazon shows this item coming in a fitted blue case. Now with this extension, I can aim my GoPro any way that I want and lock it down rock solid. For me, I have a GoPro suction cup mount from another manufacturer that came with a cheap plastic arm that you can only move in two axes. ![]() It gives you the ability to position your action camera in basically any orientation that you need. When tightened down, this thing does not move. It clamps solidly with less clamping force. I have similar products from reputable manufactures in both plastic and metal.
